Fairlight CMI Legacy II+

The Fairlight CMI Legacy II+ refill is compatible with all Reason versions from Reason 3 and up. It was introduced in 2011 and is still one of the best libraries ever made for Reason. But don’t take our word for it. People all over the world are loving this and have been raving about it for years.

The price is $79.

The Fairlight CMI Legacy MKII+ is one of our series of Fairlight refills, developed and refined between 2010 and 2011. This version is six times larger than the original very popular 400 MB Fairlight CMI Legacy refill, released in April 2010, bringing a wealth of new features and ideas to enhance your music production.

Features
The refill is compatible with Reason 3 and up and includes an impressive collection of sounds:

  • 2,304 instrument patches, including:
    • 1,014 NNXT patches
    • 622 Combinator patches
    • 190+ ReDrum kits

New Design
Each instrument is grouped into “virtual machines,” inspired by the design of Elektron’s Machinedrum and Monomachine grooveboxes. With unique, redesigned Combinator graphics by Kangebo Design in Stockholm, Sweden, finding the perfect sound has never been easier.

Background
Introduced in 1979, the Fairlight CMI was the world’s first keyboard instrument with digital sampling. Originally priced at around 545,000 SEK (or roughly 2 million SEK in today’s terms; we’re talking figures around $250,000 excluding the extremely expensive hardware support that often was needed), it became iconic thanks to artists like Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, and Howard Jones. After gaining access to original recordings from a Fairlight IIx, I was inspired to create this refill, with support from Fairlight Australia, to build and share the largest collection of sounds ever made available for Reason.
